Counter Soir - bar review

Kate Lough26 February 2014

The talk: London’s best-kept secret — a River Lea-side hipster café that moonlights as a buzzing bar where they fix up innovative cocktails and tapas

The deal: a very cool multi-level space (housed in a gallery) on arty Fish Island that will be swarming come the Olympics — it’s just across the canal from the stadium. Fairly priced delicious drinks and sharing plates best guzzled on the new pontoon.

Would suit: alfresco drinks with groups of mates.

Order: cocktail maestress Claudia’s new concoction, the Med Jerk — Gin Mare, grapefruit and lemon juice, with scotch, olive oil and chilli — sounds weird but it was the best cocktail I’ve ever tasted.

By the way: it’s only open in the evening from Thursday to Sunday but the café does a stonking brunch.

Find it: Counter Soir, 7 Roach Road, E3 (thecountercafe.co.uk)
