Cocktail delivery in London: The bars and distilleries still mixing it up during lockdown

Bottling it: Catford-based Bottle is sending out ready-to-drink minimalist cocktails

Cocktail making is easy to mess up, so why not order in? We’re all DFH (drinking from home) anyway. Here are the delivery services still mixing it up.

Bottle, Catford’s beloved neighbourhood cocktail distillery, does the lot on site: infusing, mixing, and bottling irresistibly minimalist (no silly frills here) cocktails. There’s next-day, free delivery if you live within two miles of the site. The Twisted Old Fashioned is an established post-prandial aperitif, livened up with a splash of vermouth and orange bitters here. £17 for 20cl, £28 for 50cl. (bottlebarandshop.com)

Empirical Spirits, a Copenhagen-based distillery, has pioneered in-house blends, from the Pony Negroni (a quince tea spirit called Fallen Pony, with bitter apertif and red vermouth) to Bonita Applebum (more Fallen Pony, with pineapple, banana, lemon zest and white chocolate. Fans include drinks luminaries like Ryan Chetiyawardana, aka Mr Lyan. The drinks ship at €45 (£39), and proceeds go towards supporting the beleagured hospitality industry. You should be able to get about four cocktails out of each bottle (unless you’re on lockdown measures). (empiricalspirits.co).

Speaking of Chetiyawardana, his head of bars, Alex Lawrence, is one of the brains behind Porter’s, a modern, refreshing gin at the best of times. In these worst (ish) of times, the company has canned one of its most-loved recipes, The Hippy Fizz, for at-home deliveries (pineapple shrub tropical base with malted passionfruit, plus herbal note of patchouli). £4 each, or £34 for 12 at portersgin.co.uk.

The Drinks Drop is a not-for-profit cocktail delivery service launched by Highballs Brands, usually a premium spirits distributor. With profits going back to the venues taking part, pop online to browse a sumptuous array of cocktails from the capital’s once-buzzing bars (martinis from Dandy, margaritas from Dona) and home delivering. £7.50 each. A leading light in crafted and batched cocktails at the best of times, Tails's supply of premium libations for delivery is a lifeline in lockdown. A £30 bottle contains eight cocktails, and stock ranges from mojitos to negronis. A limited collaboration with Mr Lyan, the Victory Fizz (Bombay Saphire gin, Martini Rubino Vermouth, Rare Tea co 'RAF Tea for Heroes', lemon verbena and wild strawberry) can be ordered to celebrate VE Day on 8 May, with all profits going to NHS Charities Together. Ladies and Gents, the team famous for turning Victorian water closets into watering holes, has launched a city-wide cocktail delivery service. Cocktails are £9, — order before 5pm to get them the same evening, with a minimum spend of £20. (ladiesandgents.co)

And N19 is currently raving about Cocktails to Your Door, launched by sculptor-turned-bartender-turned-distiller Alex Kammerling. It’s a chirpy, gloved-hand delivered service dropping off everything from White Russians to more bespoke Kamm & Sons brews. Cocktails are £6 to £18. Reusable bottles, too.
