Excellent cocktails made with real passion at this station-style bar in Hoxton

The buzz: A new bar, alongside a restaurant and coffee shop, in the beautifully renovated railway arches right next to Hoxton station, serving cocktails made with quintessential and seasonal British ingredients.

The deal: It feels like a grand Victorian station café with its huge brick ceilings, handsome mirrors and bulbous wall lamps. The excellent cocktails are reasonably priced by London standards at £8ish and made by the bar's secret weapon: Myles Davies, who used to work at Hix and Viajante. The outdoor area on pedestrianised Geffrye Street will really come into its own in the summer.

Good for: Everything – dates, friends, parents

Order: The Pine – pine-infused gin (heaven), aperitif wine, ginseng spirit and soda water – goes down like a very well-made Negroni. Or go for the Quince Sour – an odd-sounding but perfectly heady mix of sweet cognac, quince liqueur, honey, lemon juice, egg white and fennel bitters. In fact there wasn't much on the quite extensive menu we didn't like the look of...
