Festive fun: Winter drinkers at Winterville last year

East London's own winter wonderland Winterville has returned to Victoria park, following a successful first festive run last year.

It's bigger and better than before, with a woodland cinema, an ice-rink, a circus, a fairground, a theatre and a crazy golf course – along with street food, market stalls and mulled drinks galore.

Backyard Cinema is behind the film action, and have created a screening area in an ‘enchanted forest’ accessible only through a tunnel of trees. Films on show include Christmas favourites Love Actually, Happy Feet, Edward Scissorhands, Elf, Home Alone and It’s A Wonderful Life as well as a Jurassic Park double bill.

The circus – run by acts from Moscow State Circus and the African Whirlwind acrobats – is well worth dipping into your pocket for. You'll see contortionists, clowns, wire walkers and all manner of gravity-defying acts - not to mention a daredevil crossbow artist whose sets see him fire multiple crossbows into an apple on his own head.

The Spiegeltent venue, a popular feature from last year, has returned to host cabaret, comedy, theatre and party nights including musical bingo, guilty pleasures pop nights and performances from award-winning unique stage show Shit-faced Shakespeare.

Plonk crazy golf, which recently popped-up at Efes snooker hall and bar in Dalston, is providing nine-hole putting fun, while a fairground complete with dodgems, waltzer, giant wheel and haunted house helps to raise your adrenaline further.

The food line-up includes barbecue meat par-excellence from Smokestak, fried chicken from Mother Clucker, wings from Orange Buffalo and sweet dippy doughnuts from Los Churros Amigos.

One for the ski road: Bar Humbug at Winterville

Thirsty? Head to Bar Humbug – aka the Winterville town pub – which is offering craft beers, mulled wine and cider and boozy hot chocolate along with other tipples.

List last year, entry to Winterville is free but some of the attractions are ticketed. You might want to buy tickets for the cinema, ice-rink and circus tickets in advance to avoid disappointment...
