5 April 2012

The Affordable Art Fair comes to town, it's Fabric's 7th birthday party and there's a special cacao-themed soiree at the Volupte lounge...

THE AFFORDABLE ART FAIR
Battersea Park, Chelsea Bridge Gate Entrance, North Carriage Drive, SW11. Today-Sunday, 11am-6pm
The top end of "affordable" is £3,000, though most works on sale in this big old jamboree are between £50-£100. There are 125 galleries and art schools involved, plus a range of workshops, chats and demos. www.affordable artfair.co.uk

FABRIC 7TH BIRTHDAY WEEKEND
Fabric, 77a Charterhouse Street, EC1. Tonight, Friday 9.30pm-5am; Saturday 10pm-midday
The mammoth Fabric has succeeded where other superclubs have failed, thanks to an enlightened musical policy and lack of ponciness. Celebrate seven years this weekend: there's drum 'n' bass tonight, breaks from Scratch Perverts, Stanton Warriors and the great Dexter tomorrow and house from Ricardo Villalobos, Lindstrom and Andy Weatherall at Saturday's 14-hour sesh. 020 7336 8898

LA SOIREE DU CHOCOLAT
Volupte, 9 Norwich Street, EC4. Tonight, 7.30pm (dining), 9.30pm (party)
It seems every two-bit tap room in London is putting up a bit of red velvet and claiming to offer a cabaret worthy of Weimar Berlin. The elegant Volupte supper club is a cut above. Tonight's party honours Chocolate Week; there are turns by Miss Cocoa Mae, Ruby Blues and Vicky Butterfly and cacao-themed fun and dancing in aid of CLIC Sargent Cancer Care. www. voluptelounge.com 020 8752 2868

ONLY CONNECT: L'HISTOIRE DE MELODY NELSON
Barbican Theatre, EC2. Saturday, 7.30pm
Whether roping in his daughter for a duet about incest or bringing Jane Birkin to climax on Je t'aime, Serge Gainsbourg, left, played the French sleaze with impeccable charm. This weekend, Jarvis Cocker, Damon "Badly Drawn" Gough, Gruff Rhys and more pay tribute to his musical legacy, performing his brilliant L'Histoire de Melody Nelson with the BBC Concert Orchestra. 0845 120 7550
