Christmas pies and advent calendars have crept on to the shelves already, and from 10 October the Natural History Museum's seasonal ice rink is taking bookings.
Officially open to skaters from 8 November, the rink has established itself as a winter draw for both children and adults - last year Victoria Beckham, Elle Macpherson and Jose Mourinho all took to the ice.
Novices looking to avoid humiliation can seek refuge in the rink's café with mulled wine or hot chocolate.
