Prince Harry has recruited Coldplay to headline a charity concert at Kensington Palace next month.

The band will play for 3,000 people in the public gardens of the palace on June 28 in aid of Sentebale, the charity set up by Harry in memory of his mother, Princess Diana.

The concert, in partnership with The Handa Foundation, aims to raise funds and awareness of the challenges faced by adolescents living with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa.

British singer-songwriter Laura Mvula, African-Norwegian duo Nico & Vinz, and spoken word artist and newly appointed Sentebale ambassador George Mpanga, known as George the Poet, will be among the other performers.

Organiser: Prince Harry has arranged the concert

Coldplay said: “We’re delighted to join Prince Harry for this very special concert and to support Sentebale’s incredible work with adolescents affected by HIV in Lesotho and Botswana.”

It is the second time frontman Chris Martin has worked with Harry.

In 2014, he wrote the anthem for the opening ceremony of the inaugural Invictus Games — Prince Harry’s international sports event for wounded service personnel.

A source said Prince Harry personally made the approach and is “delighted” that the band is supporting his charity. Money raised will go towards Sentebale’s monthly Saturday clubs, caregiver days and residential camps at the newly-opened Mamohato Children’s Centre, delivering support to children living with HIV in Lesotho, and later this year in Botswana.

Harry founded the charity with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in 2006 to continue his mother’s vital work with HIV and AIDS. Cathy Ferrier, CEO of Sentebale, said: “We are ever more committed to play our part and use all our resources to support children living with HIV. The concert is about bringing people together who can make a difference.”

The event is sponsored by The Handa Foundation, Quintessentially Foundation and Huntswood.
