A brand new park is coming to Exchange Square near Liverpool Street station

A square near Liverpool Street station will be transformed into one of the largest public green spaces in the City under new plans.

The submitted proposal will turn Exchange Square into a 1.5 acre “landscaped park” in the heart of London’s busiest business district.

The designs from Vauxhall-based architects DSDHA are the latest phase in the reinvention of the Broadgate area in the east of the Square Mile close to Spitalfields and Shoreditch.

Broadgate was developed as an office complex during the “Big Bang” boom of the Eighties to provide more space for the international banks flocking to London. However, landlords British Land are investing £1.5 billion to rebrand the area as “a central London neighbourhood” with shops and restaurants. The aim is to create a destination in its own right.

The new park will include a water feature, restaurant and an event space, with the amount of green space increasing four fold. David Lockyer, head of Broadgate at British Land, said: “We’re excited about the opportunity to create a new park that will help improve people’s wellbeing and that can be enjoyed by all the community.”
