Mums do a lot.

From wiping indiscriminate goo from your newborn face to helping you understand what taxes actually are, mums are usually busy making today your day.

So, this Mother’s Day, give her more than a card. Please. It may be a very nice card crumpled at the bottom of your gym bag, but how about giving to her a day she’ll remember?

From relaxing pampering sessions to thrill seeking stunts, here’s are our picks of the things you should do with your mum this weekend.

Take a foodie canal cruise

Lunch by the side of the river is one thing, but how about lunch actually on the river? Seafood enthusiasts London Shell Co are setting sail on Regent’s Canal on canal boat The Prince Regent for a special one-off Mother’s Day sojourn. For £45 a head, enjoy a five course seafood menu – featuring Carlingford Loch oysters with angel hair fries and skrei cod with hispi cabbage, all accompanied by serenades from a violin and cello duo.

Get brunch and a blow dry

Start Mother’s Day as you mean to go on – eating well, drinking well and looking good. Farm Girl in Soho have teamed up with Duck & Dry salon to offer a pretty package for mums on March 11. For £40, you can treat your mum to a blow dry of her choice, a glass of sparkling wine and brunch from Farm Girl’s signature menu.

Splash out in a rooftop pool

Forget all about the snow by showing mum a taste of the Mediterranean at the LIDO, The Curtain’s rooftop pool and restaurant. LIDO is usually only open to hotel guests and The Curtain members but, in a motherly fashion, the space is opening its doors to all on March 11. For a £35 ticket, you can pick up a three course roast dinner, enjoy spectacular views across Shoreditch, and even take a dip in the heated outdoor pool (be brave).

Take a floristry masterclass

Mother’s Day and floral offerings have long gone hand in hand. This year, mix up your usual bunch of flowers by learning to make your own. Covent Garden Academy of Flowers are teaming up with cava connoisseurs Freixenet to present a “bouquet and bubbles” workshop, to teach mums and their offspring the art of floristry, all helped along by a fizzy tipple or two. The workshop costs £110 and includes a bottle of Freixenet’s premium Cordon Rosado cava to take home.

Scale the heights of the O2

Maybe your mum isn’t the kind of mum who’s into flowers – maybe your mum’s a thrillseeker. If you’re looking for an adrenaline-filled Mother’s Day, then how about taking her for an urban mountaineering escapade up the façade of the O2 Arena? Get mum kitted up and traversing the walkway (suspended 52m above ground level, we should probably add), with free photos of the experience available for all tough mothers who make the trip.
