Lord Mayor's Show to celebrate Chinese links

Big spectacle: 400,000 people are expected to watch Saturday's show, the 792nd
5 April 2012

A Chinese acrobat is to take centre stage at this year's Lord Mayor's Show in recognition of growing links between China and the City.

He will perform a series of aerial stunts while suspended from a crane above Bank during the procession on Saturday.

The show, the 792nd, will involve more than 6,000 participants, 2,000 servicemen and women, 70 floats, 200 historic and modern vehicles, 190 horses, 24 marching bands and 22 carriages, including the gold leaf State Coach, on its 250th appearance.

Starting in Guildhall at 11am, the procession will travel through the City to the Royal Courts of Justice in the Strand, where new Lord Mayor David Lewis will swear allegiance to the Queen. The oath will be broadcast live on BBC1 for the first time in 70 years.

The parade will end at 5pm with a fireworks display launched from a barge between Waterloo and Blackfriars bridges.
