London Wine Festival: More than 200 vineyards promised at debut event

A new accessible wine festival will debut in London this December, showcasing a lineup of 200 vineyards from around the world.

The inaugural London Wine Festival will run from December 7-10 at the Truman Brewery in East London, and has been designed to provide a boost to producers for Christmas 2023.

Organisers said they expect 15,000 people to attend the event, one that will focus on British wines from Kent, Oxfordshire, Sussex, Essex, and beyond.

International participants include vineyards from Georgia, Armenia, France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Germany, Belgium, South Africa and California.

“We’re thrilled to present the London Wine Festival,” said founder Jonathan Geitner.

“Our festival aims to be a celebration of wine that’s both inclusive and vibrant, capturing the essence of what makes wine culture so enjoyable.”

Geitner added the festival will aim to attract a younger audience, particularly Gen Z and millennials, in an industry often geared towards older drinkers.

He said the idea is to also shine a light on more affordable independent producers.

“There’s a disconnect between demographics and wineries, and that’s why we’re doing what we’re doing.”

Wine buyer Richard Knowles said: “This is what the UK and London has been crying out for. Something fun, lively and embracing wine with no egotism.”

The event promises live music, expert talks, tastings and workshops.
