New pop-up offers diners to eat in the eye of a 'perfect storm'

A London pop-up will be cooking up a storm – literally – as part of a new immersive drinking and dining experience.

Guests will be exposed to the elements as part of the Dining in a Perfect Storm pop-up in July, which recreates a full tropical downpour indoors.

The event is being overseen by Kraken Black Spiced Rum, and will use state-of-the-art rainfall technology to simulate the conditions of a storm inside.

As well as rain, there'll also be wind turbines and special effects recreating rolling thunder. Organisers will utilise similar technology used in the hugely popular Rain Room experience at the Barbican, which launched back in 2012.

A thousand litres of rain will cascade from the ceiling every minute at the start of the experience, before diners enter the ‘eye of the storm’, where things calm down a little.

There, guests will be served two courses of food, all dyed jet-black with natural food colouring.

Guests can choose between a starter of pickled seafood and seaweed salad, or Black nori rolls with kale and green beans. For mains, there’s either squid ink linguini or black garlic gnocchi. There will also be Kraken cocktails on offer alongside the food.

The Kraken Dining in a Perfect Storm event takes place on July 12 and 13 at 5 Newport Street, Covent Garden. Tickets cost £25 and can be bought here.
