Audiophiles and cinephiles alike, sit up. Martin Scorsese is coming to HBO.

The legendary director has teamed up with the Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger and Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter to bring a brand new eight-episode show to the premium cable service next year.

The series, titled Vinyl, will follow the exploits of music industry kingpin Richie Finestra, the head of fictional label American Century Records, in New York in the 1970s.

It’s perfect territory for Scorsese, with the first trailer dishing up plenty of his usual cinematic flourishes, including freeze-frames, lustrous slow-mo, and a gruff voiceover. Then there’s the copious drug-taking, the reverence for the Big Apple in the Seventies, and an unabashed love for rock and roll. This is full-fat Scorsese, just on the small screen.
