Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones lead the charge as celebrities began to arrive at the Virgin Media TV Baftas this afternoon.

The Normal People stars were all smiles as they reunited on the red carpet – but kept social distancing rules in mind, posing with a tape measure in order to avoid breaking government guidelines.

Their meeting comes after Mescal, 24, was nominated for an Emmy Award for his performance as the chain-wearing Connell in the hit BBC Three drama – with fans left stunned as Edgar-Jones was snubbed.

Mescal has since dedicated his nomination to his 22-year-old co-star, writing on Twitter: “Daisy Edgar-Jones this only exists because of you and your extraordinary talent it’s as simple as that!”

A number of other celebrities also arrived on the red carpet, as they prepared for their presenting duties.

BBC Radio 1’s Clara Amfo, ITV2 star Emily Atack and There She Goes star Jessica Hynes were among the arrivals for the photocall.

Elsewhere, Tenet star Himesh Patel, Bake Off: Extra Slice host Tom Allen and comedian Greg Davies also posed for press.

This year’s TV Baftas, which were previously delayed due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, will be the award ceremony’s first-ever socially distanced event.

The ceremony, which will be hosted by Richard Ayoade, will take place behind closed doors, with winners accepting their awards via video link.

Speaking about the shoot, Rankin explained: “I am so excited to have shot the 2020 Virgin Media Baftas nominee portraits. Despite the limitations, we have created a memorable series of photographs and it has been a real honour to capture some of the biggest TV stars in the intimacy of their own homes.

“To be able to virtually connect, direct, shoot and deliver these portraits without any physical interaction has been a fun challenge and our TV celebrities put on quite the performance for us!”

The Virgin Media TV Baftas air tonight at 7pm on BBC One
