A couple missed out on returning to the This Time Next Year studio for a very special reason, which left viewers in tears.

Steve and Baishali appeared on the ITV show, which aims to have contestants set goals for themselves and revisit them after a year, previously with Baishali revealing she had been told that she would not be able to carry a child after her uterus had been “90 per cent obliterated”.

Baishali, who has Asherman’s disease, and Steve had decided to try for a baby via a surrogate, Becky, but she sadly miscarried at 10 weeks.

And, 12 months on, the couple were unable to return to the studio to give an update on their year – but for a very special reason.

Throwing to a video link, host Davina McCall checked in with the couple – and surrogate Beccy – who delivered the special news.

Baishali said: “I’m really sorry we couldn’t be there today. We are not able to travel because of a medical reason.

“I’ve been advised it’s not safe right now because I am actually myself nine months pregnant.”

The mum-to-be revealed that she discovered she was pregnant around two weeks after Becky sadly miscarried, adding that the pregnancy had been “really tough because we just thought at every single stage we’re going to lose the baby, it didn’t seem medically possible that this baby could hang on.”

ITV viewers were reduced to tears by the happy news, and agreed with McCall that they had “crazy goosebumps”.

One wrote: “A miracle baby to end the series wow, that is such an inspiring story. If it’s meant to be it just is. #ThisTimeNextYear.”

Another said: “#ThisTimeNextYear Bless the couple who thought they couldnt have kids, but are now expecting. So happy for them Xx”

“Yep. I definitely cried at #ThisTimeNextYear tonight when that lady who had been trying for a baby for over 5 years was 9 months pregnant,” added a third.

This Time Next Year is available to catch up on ITV Hub.
