Theresa May pulled out of an interview with This Morning hours before she was scheduled to appear.
The Prime Minister had been slated to chat to Phillip Schofield and Rochelle Humes, who is standing in for Holly Willoughby, on Thursday’s edition of the show.
But Schofield revealed she had had to pull out over Brexit.
Opening the show, he said: “Well, we’ve been telling you to expect the Prime Minister on our sofa and we’re going to have to disappoint.
“We were told this morning that all would become clear, hasn’t yet, but obviously the reason she is not here today is to do with Brexit."
He said the Prime Minister apologised and promised she will return next week to do the interview.
“She sent her apologies and said that hopefully next week she will be able to do the chat she was going to do today," he said.
“So I assume, during the course of the day, it will unfold as to why she’s not here.”
The interview had been teased during Coronation Street on Wednesday night.
In a statement after her meeting with Jean-Claude Juncker, Mrs May said: “We have made further progress. And, as a result we have given sufficient direction to our negotiators, I hope, for them to be able to resolve the remaining issues.
“And that work will start immediately. I now plan to return for further meetings, including with President Juncker on Saturday to discuss how we can bring to a conclusion this process and bring it to a conclusion in the interests of all our people.”
