Alisah Bonaobra became the latest contestant to be eliminated from the X Factor, after her cover of Praying for Time failed to impress the voting public.

The singing hopeful, who previously finished runner up on the second season of The Voice of the Philippines, said she never dreamed she would get to this stage in the competition.

Speaking after getting the boot, she said: “I never thought I’d go this far.”

Her performance was well-received by the judges, with Girls coach Sharon Osbourne praising her ‘unstoppable’ voice.

Nicole Scherzinger said: “Babe, you are such a little a thing but your voice is limitless.”

Host Dermot O’Leary added: “You have been like a little marine, you didn’t take no for an answer.”

Four contestants were due to get the boot this weekend, until Simon Cowell made a last-minute decision on Saturday night to alter the format and scrap the double elimination.

Jack and Joel become the fifth act to leave the show on Saturday, after losing the public vote with their performance of The Edge Of Heaven. Despite being described as “a modern day Wham!” by the judges, the group didn’t impress the viewers at home and became the third wildcard act to be eliminated.

This week saw the finalists play tribute to a pop legend George Michael as they honoued the late star who passed away last Christmas Day.

Tonight’s winner Lloyd Macey didn’t leave a dry eye in the house with his ‘understated’ version of A Different Corner, even reducing Louis Walsh, Osbourne and Scherzinger to tears.

“You’re a very special person,” Walsh said, while Osbourne, a friend of Michael, struggled to regain her composure. She said: “That was just wonderful, it makes me think of George and how I miss him so much.”

As the Prize Fight Champion, Macey has won the chance to open for Little Mix in Manchester at the end of the month, beating Saturday’s winner Kevin Davy White to claim the prize. Davy White’s performance of Fast Love was described by Overs coach Scherzinger as the best performance she had “ever seen on that stage.”

Elsewhere on the show, Paloma Faith made her debut with Guilty, the second single from her upcoming album The Architect, ahead of its release on Friday.

Saturday’s show saw Harry Styles perform his latest hit Kiwi, quashing rumours off a feud between the One Direction megastar and Simon Cowell.
