Sajan Shah has become the seventh candidate to be sent home from The Apprentice after a branding task which saw the teams introduce a new car to market.

The event company owner was criticised for his lack of creativity and blamed for team Graphene’s confusing ad, which the group had mistakenly set in a Norman village, not realising it was a historical recreation.

It featured Elizabeth McKenna as a flustered mum, chasing chickens out of the way of the car, which Lord Sugar said he felt looked like they were being run over.

Team Vitality meanwhile, attempted to win favour with busy Londoners by choosing a travel theme for their digital ads and calling their car Miami.

But despite leaving some members of the public confused as to whether it was a car to purchase or to rent, the experts rated their campaign and they walked away with the win.

In the boardroom, Lord Sugar did away with his tradition of inviting the leader of the losing side to bring two teammates back in with him, instead insisting that Elizabeth McKenna, Joanna Jarjue and Shah all join project manager James White in the firing line.

Ultimately it was Shah who Sugar felt was responsible for the team’s failure. “Sajan, I can’t see any stand-out moments so far. In this task, I have not seen anything from you.”

Despite bringing four back into the boardroom instead of the usual three, the business mogul decided against a double firing, but gave McKenna, Jarjue and White stark warnings as he sent them back to the house.

In his the taxi home, Shah said he felt the decision made ‘no sense’.

“I’m definitely not the person who should be leaving today,” he said. “There are people who have floated through this process without working hard. I’m absolutely gutted, it just makes no sense.”

Next week the candidates open doggy day care centres, looking after London’s most high-maintenance canines.

The Apprentice is on BBC One, Wednesday at 9pm
