Shane Richie has confirmed that he will return to EastEnders to keep his beloved partner happy.

The actor, who played cheeky chappy Alfie Moon, is keen to head back to Walford at some point after disappearing from screens a couple of years ago.

Alfie, along with wife Kat, were last seen on screens in ill-fated and quickly axed spin-off show Redwater, which followed the couple in Ireland to find Kat’s long-lost son.

But now Richie has confirmed that he will try move Alfie back to the Square because his wife Christie Goddard “wants to get him out the house”.

Richie, 53, told the Daily Express: “My wife wants me to get back to work. She's desperate for me to do [EastEnders] - so I will.

“I've had two years off and I think that was enough for me. I'm ready to go back if they'll have me. It's the best gig on TV.”

Goddard added to the publication that she will “make sure he does [return].”

The show is set for a Slater family reunion as Big Mo (Laila Morse) returns to Walford with the bombshell announcement that granddaughter Kat has died.

Mo doesn’t waste any time sharing the devastating news with Stacey, and the heartbroken pair set about planning a memorial party for their relation at the Queen Vic.

But there’s a twist in-store as it has been confirmed that, despite Kat’s watery death over in Ireland, the beloved character is very much alive.
