Piers Morgan couldn’t resist making another dig at Love Island “cretins” as he discussed Harry Redknapp’s relationship with wife Sandra.

The Good Morning Britain presenter blasted exports of the ITV2 reality series in the opening minutes of Monday morning’s show after Kate Garraway mentioned Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham’s recent split.

She said: “When we saw that reunion on Friday, it was just after we’d heard the news that Jack and Dani had broken up and it couldn’t be more different.”

Morgan said: “Well, you’ve got the Love Island cretins and they’re like ‘we love each other’. Yeah, for three weeks and you’ve got these two – over 50 years of marriage.

“What’s lovely is that it’s genuine. All the time you see these showbiz couples, you know the reality. In their case, they are genuinely blissfully happy. They are the template for a happily married couple.”

Redknapp, who was crowned King of the Jungle on Sunday night, frequently talked to his campmates about his wife Sandra, who he started dating when they were both 17.

Fans were beside themselves with tears of joy as the 71-year-old was reunited with the love of his life near the end of his stint in the jungle.

The couple, who married in 1967, have two sons together – Mark, a model, and ex-footballer and Sky Sports pundit Jamie, 45.

The 22-year-old former barmaid posted an emotional statement on Instagram, which she has since deleted, claiming that the pair planned to stay friends but realised it “wasn’t meant to be long term”.
