Piers Morgan bets MP Andrew Bridgen £10,000 that he won’t be sacked from Good Morning Britain

MP Andrew Bridgen said Morgan wouldn’t be fronting the show ‘by Christmas’

Piers Morgan has challenged MP Andrew Bridgen to a £10,000 bet after the MP said the presenter would be out of a job before Christmas.

Bridgen, the Conservative MP for North West Leicestershire, clashed with Morgan during an appearance on Good Morning Britain earlier this week.

The MP suggested it would be fine for Morgan to visit his three sons as long as he adhered to social distancing guidelines.

But then Morgan said his advice went “completely against the new rules” from the government, saying: “You just told me to do something I’m not allowed to do.

“So this is the problem isn’t it? There is no clarity.”

Bridgen, appearing on TalkRadio on Wednesday evening, talked about his treatment on Good Morning Britain.

The MP said: "It wasn't even an interview but a monologue.

“I thought the idea was that he asked some questions and I gave some answers rather than him just shouting at me.

“I’ll have a little bet he won’t be fronting that programme by Christmas.”

Morgan swiftly responded on Twitter, branding Bridgen an “idiot” and suggesting a £10,000 bet on him not getting fired from the ITV show.

He wrote to his 7.5 million followers:

“Hi @ABridgen, a) I shouted at you because you were being an idiot.

“B) Our ratings this week have been the highest in @GMB history. c) I’ll take that bet - £10,000 to charity?”

The presenter then reiterated his wager on Thursday morning’s show.

The host said: “As for the bet, I think I’ll still be here until Christmas, I’m contracted until the end of next year so I think it’s quite likely.

“So why don’t we have a bet for charity, £10,000 - put your money where your mouth is."

Morgan has been a vocal critic of the Government's handling of the coronavirus pandemic, though his interview approach hasn’t been without controversy.

Ofcom received hundreds of complaints about the clash between Bridgen and the ITV presenter, with TV watchdog revealing 281 people viewers objected to Monday's show.

Last month, more than 3,000 complaints were made to Ofcom following two GMB interviews with care minister Helen Whately.
