Our Girl viewers have threatened to boycott the series after Special Forces operative Elvis Harte was killed off in the shocking final episode of the Nepal Tour.

Harte, played by Luke Pasqualino, was the ex fiancé of Michelle Keegan's character Georgie Lane in the BBC war drama. His shock death came just a week after fans praised the pair’s ‘intense’ chemistry.

Viewers shared their upset on social media, vowing not to watch the show again unless Harte was resurrected in a future episode.

One tweeted: “BBC just killed off the only reason why I’d tune in next series! Elvis #OurGirl.”

Another complained: “I’m not watching #OurGirl until they resurrect Elvis. Georgie cannot be with anyone else, especially Jamie!”

It was a rollercoaster episode for fans of the show, which saw Harte and Lane reconcile after weeks of tension.

But their happiness was short lived as Harte came under fire in a dramatic battle scene before dying in Lane’s arms.

Show creator Tony Grounds confirmed Pasqualino’s exit from the series is permanent and admitted that he had ‘no choice’ but to write him out after the actor signed a five-year contract to appear in another series.

Speaking to Radio Times he said: "Firstly in terms of honouring that story – it felt like their relationship was brilliant and toxic at the same time and it was a great dramatic way to go with it. Being in the forces, he's quite close to death all the time so that was the one thing that stuck in my mind.

"And then [Luke] had signed a contract to do another show which tied him up for five years with Snatch. So we had no choice.

"We could have sent [Elvis] to prison or on holiday or just not seen him for five years but that seemed a bit daft so we thought let's take this brave way – and he dies on the battlefield in Georgie Lane's arms. We were forced into that way of thinking because I love him and I would happily have had Elvis in forever."

Our Girl returns to BBC One in 2018.
