Niall Horan has opened up about the meaning behind his debut solo single This Town.

Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, the One Direction singer revealed that the song is partly about his own home town – and girls, of course.

“It’s sort of about Mullingar but it has a double meaning,” he explained.

“Everything comes back to home, but there is the female aspect too.”

But before the fanbase goes into meltdown, Horan has dashed speculation that he’s got any romance going on in real life.

“Everyone wants to know, but it’s not about anyone in particular,” he said of the song. “I’ve cleared that up on national television now!”

After spending some time backpacking around Asia with his cousins, Horan is working towards the release of his solo album.

“When I got back from Asia I just started doing acoustic stuff – the stuff I grew up on – and thought, ‘maybe I should release them, they’re actually not that bad’,” he told Norton.

“I am 100% relieved that people like it. I have been sitting on it for so long and keeping it a secret. It was a nerve-wracking time.”

Horan also stated once again that One Direction will be getting back together – and while there’s no reunion date set, it’s not too far off.

“We can’t put a date on it but it won’t be in fifty years time,” he explains. “It’s in the foreseeable future.

“We’ve talked about it but for now we’ll just play by ear and see what happens.”
