Netflix has launched a Black Lives Matter section containing TV shows, movies and documentaries that educate viewers on the experiences of black people in America.

The section features over 45 titles including Ava DuVernay’s documentary 13th, Spike Lee’s new film Da 5 Bloods and Barry Jenkins’ Oscar-winning Moonlight.

The streaming service announced the new feature on Twitter, writing: “Black storytelling matters”.

“With an understanding that our commitment to true, systemic change will take time – we're starting by highlighting powerful and complex narratives about the Black experience,” the service's official account posted.

“When you log onto Netflix today, you will see a carefully curated list of titles that only begin to tell the complex and layered stories about racial injustice and Blackness in America.”

The section is available under the genre tabs in the subsections of TV and Movies, and can be found by searching ‘Black Lives Matter’ on the service.

Other titles include DuVernay’s miniseries When They See Us, Beyonce’s Homecoming, the Kerry Washington play American Son and Dee Rees’ Mudbound.

Netflix had previously been one of the first major media companies to announce their support for Black Lives Matter.

Posting on their Twitter account, the streaming service wrote: “To be silent is to be complicit. Black lives matter.

“We have a platform, and we have a duty to our Black members, employees, creators and talent to speak up.”
