Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been nominated for a Hollywood Critics Award (HCA) for their revelatory Netflix series.

The pair are up for the best streaming nonfiction series gong for Harry & Megan, their six-part series, which was released last December.

The news will be welcome for the Duchess of Sussex especially after Spotify cancelled her £15 million podcast series Archetypes which ran for only one series.

Harry & Megan is up against Prehistoric Planet 2, Rainn Wilson and the Geography of Bliss, Rennervations, The 1619 Project and The Reluctant Traveller with Eugene Levy.

Netflix reported that 2.4 million tuned in to watch the series on its release day, which made it the most seen on that day, notably more than royal family drama The Crown.

The series revealed how the pair had first fallen in love and then detailed their struggles in dealing with the Firm as well as the British tabloid media.

“They had paid certain neighbours to put a livestream camera into my backyard,” the duchess said at one point.

“Suddenly it was like everything about my life was getting so much more insular. All the curtains were pulled, all the blinds were pulled. It was scary.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not commented on the nomination.

The Hollywood Critics Association is more established as a celebrator of film but has been hosting television awards since 2021.

The 2023 HCA TV Awards Ceremony for Streaming will be held on Sunday August 13, one day after the awards for broadcast and cable television.

Last year The Beatles:Get Back won the prize for the best streaming docuseries or nonfiction series.

While the duke and duchess have been criticised for leaving the Firm and beginning a new life in the US, they have won fans for their Netflix series.

"The Harry & Meghan series should win this category,” one wrote on Twitter following the nomination news. “Very well deserved!! Congratulations to the team for a job well done."

Another added: "Congrats to all nominees. I’ll be rooting for Harry & Meghan!"
