Love Island's Dr Alex George reveals he is joining Good Morning Britain as a guest health editor

Love Island star Dr Alex George is joining Good Morning Britain as a guest Health Editor, replacing Dr Hilary Jones.

The A&E medic is standing in for Jones next week, announcing his news on Friday’s show.

George, who finished fifth on Love Island this summer, said: “Next week Dr Hilary is away, the fantastic Dr Hilary, so I’m very excited to say that I’m going to be stepping into his very big shoes for the week, and doing my very best. I’m really excited!

“I’m really look forward to it. I’m very passionate about my job, I love medicine, I love health and wellbeing, I’m really excited to have that opportunity to talk about topics.

He continued: “I’m passionate about the job. Of course I’m going to be going back to the NHS, but in the meantime, I really hope that I can use the platform that I have to talk about things that are topical and effect people in everyday life.”

The 27-year-old added that he was hoping to discuss sexual health, mental health and body image in order to start a conversation among young people.

At the time, a source told The Sun: “Producers were impressed with Alex following his time on the show this week – and were intrigued to hear him say how keen he was to pursue more TV work

“They believe it would be great to have a new face whose come from a show like Love Island and can appeal to a younger audience to give his insight on the medical world.”

The insider added: “He talks really passionately about his profession and is a big star thanks to his summer in the villa – but wants to use his newfound fame to educate the masses.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
