Axed: The Ancient Rome show Bromans failed to become a hit with the viewers

Love Island’s replacement Bromans has reportedly been axed by ITV after just one series.

In a bid to capitalise on the hype of the ITV2 show last summer, Bromans saw contestants given Ancient Roman garbs and compete in a series of tests to be crowned the victorious couple.

The show failed to fly and ratings for the gladiator contest weren’t as good as expected – with it now being claimed that the programme didn’t perform well enough to get a second series.

A source told The Sun: “Bromans was lots of fun and a great show but we currently have no plans for it to return to ITV2.”

The eight couples battled it out for a chance to take home the Emperor’s Gold, the cash pot of £100,000.

Along the way, they were helped by David McIntosh and Tom Bell with voice over provided by Roman Kemp.

The show followed hot on the heels of the third series of summer love show Love Island that enjoyed runaway success over its seven week run.

According to Radio Times, this year’s series is set to be a week longer to run for two months.

Caroline Flack, who hosts the show, teased the return on Thursday on social media.

Posting to her 1.9 million followers, she wrote: “So I had a sneak peek at this years LOVE ISLANDERS today..... and .... it’s gonna be a LONG HOT SUMMER ...@LoveIsland.”
