Love Island: It’s unlucky for some as Wes and Georgia go dating while four islanders get dumped from the villa…

There are many times we have let ourselves down as a nation – when Matt Cardle won over One Direction on 2010 The X Factor, for one – but tonight, as lobster doc Alex lives to see yet another day in the villa we really need to sit down and take a long hard look at ourselves.

Last night’s Love Island episode had over three million viewers, three million people who saw Alex ‘smouldering,’ three million people who watched him graft Grace despite clearly not fancying her, and yet we still saw it fit to keep him and his blistering red skin on the island. Poor show, Britain, poor show.

Anyway, there’s a small saving grace in that Adam is now gone – a saving grace for everyone except for Zara. Seriously Zar, run, run now, he’s coming for you potentially via pulling 67 impressionable young students while being paid to turn up to a nightclub in Blackpool.

The big news of the night is that Megan still fancies Wes, despite ditching him for new Alex, aka Jeremy Piven, the second he was sent to Casa Amor. Although she’s nearly as snakey as Adam we’ve got a bit of a soft spot for Megan who bowls through men with wild abandon.

After all, as she tells Alex, ‘I’m not a muggy person, I’m a very, very honest person.’ And that’s true, she has admitted to fancying nearly every man who has walked in.

Things are looking up for Georgia, who, after two days of crying, has decided that she’s over Josh with a capital O and ‘fun G,’ is back. This means more jumping in the swimming pool and more making water balloons out of condoms (well, they’ve got to find some use for them). But it’s not before she’s ruffled a few feathers by taking Laura’s man on a date. A move which only serves to remind us that he exists. What’s his name again Joe?... James?... Jiminy Bob Cricket?

Date: Megan and Wes went out before recoupling

With the dates in full swing the Georgia and Wes get down to quizzing their potential suitors on the only questions they’re contractually allowed to ask.

"What’s your relationship history?,"– happy single but would like to get into a relationship. "What’s your type?,"– whoever is sitting opposite at them at the time.

"What are you looking for?" – whoever is sitting opposite them at the time.

Insightful.

And slightly awkward given Wes and Megan have already done that part. ‘We just keep finding each other,’ Wes tells Megan, yes, Wes, because you live in the same villa and you’ve just asked her on a date.

It’s hard to tell what’s going to happen here because even when Megan is angry, "I’m fuming," she says after finding out Laura said Wes can do better than her, she fails to raise a single emotion to her face. Maybe it’s the botox or maybe the villa has left her dead inside – at this point it’s anybody’s guess.

But Wes doesn’t care, even as Georgia points out the blindingly obvious – that Megan isn’t loyal to him – he still saves her from being dumped from the island, while Georgia chooses to couple up with Sam, formerly of Sam and Samira, then of Sam and Ellie, so two really strong couplings there. Until tomorrow…
