'Dead ting': Love Island fans divided over Amber Gill's dig at Joanna Chimonides

The Love Island star took a shot at her rival after she was dumped by Michael Griffiths

Love Island viewers were left divided after contestant Amber Gill appeared to brand Joanna Chimonides a “dead ting” following a dramatic recoupling.

Amber returned to the villa from Casa Amor to discover that Michael Griffiths had chosen to dump her in favour of new girl Joanna after branding her previous behaviour “childish” and claiming that he had “not been true to himself” in their relationship.

After the recoupling ceremony came to an end, Amber greeted the new girls in the villa but seemed to deliberately avoid a face-to-face encounter with her rival.

As new islander Jourdan asked her how she was feeling, Amber responded: “I’ll be fine, 100 per cent.

“But like, she’s a dead ting so it’s like, coming out and what am I supposed to be - upset?”

Jourdan then repeated the comment back to Joanna, who said Amber’s behaviour was “not nice.”

Fans on Twitter couldn’t come to an agreement over Amber’s jibe, with some viewers branding her behaviour “childish” and “immature” while others were surprised that Joanna took offence.

“Amber calling Joanna a dead ting is off, and Very untrue,” one viewer wrote. “I understand she’s hurt, but that ain’t it girlie.”

“Funny how every girl is ignoring all the childish things Amber did this episode,” another agreed. “Like she even admitted to calling Joana a dead ting #loveisland”

“‘Dead ting’ such a immature comment,” a third added. “UP your vocab Amber. Stop proving Michael right #loveisland.”

Amber’s supporters said that the phrase was “hardly a soul crushing insult” and suggested that she would have been feeling “upset” in the heat of the moment.

“Joanna is really clinging on to how offended she is by Amber calling her a ‘dead ting’ which is hardly a soul crushing insult,” one comment read. “She stole Amber’s man and then is confused that she wasn’t greeted with a smile? Is she ok? Is she quite well? #loveisland.”

“She called me a ‘dead ting’ and didn’t say hello. Boo hoo Joanna, did you expect to exchange BFF friendship bracelets too?!” another said. “Amber is upset cause you took her man even if she doesn’t show it. #loveisland.”

Others were simply confused about what Amber’s insult meant, with fans joking that they felt “old” and “out of the loop.”

“Can someone please enlighten me what “dead ting” means?” one wrote. “Out of the loop. #loveisland2019.”

Another added: “Am I the only person who had to google what ‘dead ting’ means? I feel old #LoveIsIand.”

Tonight’s episode will see the two girls attempt to work through their differences as they are told to leave the villa for a “catch up.”

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
