The BBC have confirmed that a ’lost’ Doctor Who saga from 1966 is regenerating into a new form for fans to enjoy.

The master tapes for Power of the Daleks were destroyed in the Seventies, but now the story is being remade in animated form.

The six-part adventure marked Patrick Troughton’s debut as the Doctor – the second actor to take on the role.

Fresh from his regeneration, the Doctor teams up once again with companions Ben and Polly to battle the Daleks.

The animated version of the story will be released on the BBC Store for fans to download at 5.50pm on November 5 – exactly 50 years since it first aired.

The episodes will also be taking to the big screen at the BFI Southbank in London on November 5, and will be released on DVD on November 21.

“The Power of the Daleks animation is the most ambitious Doctor Who archive restoration ever attempted,” says director Charles Norton.

“Intelligent, suspenseful and magnificently staged, Power of the Daleks is one of the great lost classics of 1960s television and a superb example of the black and white era at its finest.”

In more recent Doctor Who news, current Doctor Peter Capaldi told fans on the set of Series 10 that the episodes are likely to air in April 2017.
