Loose Women was cancelled today to allow for extended news coverage on the Grenfell Tower fire – but some daytime TV fans couldn’t understand why.

The ITV show was pulled as the broadcaster continued to report on the terrifying blaze which has claimed six lives.

Bosses confirmed the news in a statement, tweeting: “Due to the tragic fire at #GrenfellTower we will NOT be on air today.

“Our thoughts are with those affected by this horrific incident.”

But some insensitive viewers expressed their anger at the cancellation, with one describing the scheduling alteration as “beyond a joke”.

Another tweeted: “FFS every time something happens our show gets bloody cancelled it's beyond a joke now!!”

A third questioned why the coverage couldn’t be restricted to news-specific channels, posting: “It might be a big news story but why cancel daytime morning programmes when the TV companies have specific channels for news only.”

Other users hit back at the insensitive comments and urged people to show more respect.

One person fumed: “Are you seriously comparing you missing a show to what all those people are going through?!! Unbelievable!! (sic).”

Lorraine and The Jeremy Kyle Show were also spiked to allow for extended coverage on Good Morning Britain.

Forty fire engines with 200 officers were called shortly before 1am as flames engulfed the 27-storey Grenfell Tower block from the second floor upwards.

Residents were trapped “screaming for their lives” as flames tore through the building with unconfirmed reports on social media of some using bedsheets as makeshift ropes while others were reportedly seen jumping for their lives.

More than 50 patients have been taken to five different hospitals, with the Met Police confirming six fatalities.

Lily Allen, Emma Freud and Jamie Oliver are among a handful of celebrities who have reached out to those affected by the devastating incident.
