Soprano Katherine Jenkins has realised her dream of working with her director husband, as the pair are bringing out a children’s TV series.

Earlier this year, Jenkins told the Standard how she hoped to bring together her background and that of her husband, Andrew Levitas, to create something.

Now the couple have found the perfect project, and today announced that they are busy on a new animated children’s show which will aim to spark youngsters’ interest in music.

Called Symphony Street, it will follow a group of musical characters and feature music from all genres, chosen by classical crossover star Jenkins.

Jenkins, 36, who gave birth to daughter Aaliyah last year, will also voice one of the characters.

She was a singing teacher before finding stardom, while Levitas is a part-time faculty member at New York University, where he teaches.

She told the Standard: “I’ve been in love with classical music for as long as I can remember, and it has been through this musical prism that I’ve had the good fortune to learn so many of life’s lessons.

“Music is the international language: it doesn’t see colour, race, class or creed, and the lessons learned through it are easily translated into everyday life.

"It was with this in mind that my husband and I set out to create a fun and exciting musical platform to teach our own young daughter.

“With my own history of being a teacher prior to my current career and my husband being a professor at NYU, it was inevitable that a larger, more immersive and universal programme developed.

“At the core of this project is the principle that when we listen to each other, we can find harmony — and when we do we are happier and more powerful than we ever could be on our own.”

The couple are working on the project with children’s studio Splash Entertainment, which is in talks with Welsh broadcaster S4C. The couple hope other channels will pick it up later.

They live in south-west London and were married at Hampton Court Palace in 2014.

In April, Jenkins told the Standard: “I think we will potentially work together.

"He’s a writer and director of films, so at some point I’m sure we will think of an idea to do together. So you never know, watch this space.
