Julian Clary jokes about ‘finishing off’ Eamonn Holmes as host walks out of interview during coughing fit

12 April 2018

Julian Clary made a risqué joke during an appearance on Good Morning Britain after Eamonn Holmes was forced to walk off set during a coughing fit.

Holmes struggled to contain his spluttering as Clary started to discuss his children’s book The Bolds and eventually the presenter decided to walk off camera so as not to further distract viewers.

Clary said: "I'm trying to talk while Eamonn is coughing away."

Eamon responded: "I'm sorry mate I got one of those air conditioner coughs on the plane.

"I think what I might do is leave and let you guys carry on."

His departure prompted co-host Kate Garraway to joke: "Are you the man to finish Eamonn Holmes off Julian?" prompting Clary to quip: “As it were”.

As the interview continued, Holmes still didn’t return to the set, causing Garraway to exclaim: "That's it, we've lost Eamonn! He's gone Charlotte."

On social media, one viewer accused Holmes of trying to steal Clary’s thunder, writing: “Eamonn Holmes manages to draw attention to himself during Julian Clary’s interview.”

While another speculated that there might be more to the coughing fit than met the eye, tweeting: “@GMB I don't think @EamonnHolmes likes @JulianClary. It seems the feeling is mutual”.

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays at 6.30am.
