Billie Piper and Lucy Prebble’s brilliant black comedy I Hate Suzie will return for a second season - but we have a wait on our hands.
The first series aired on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV last year and saw Piper star as Suzie Pickles, a child star turned actress whose life is turned upside down when her intimate photos are hacked.
Each of the eight episodes follows Suzie as she works her way through different stage of grief, from denial and bargaining to acceptance, and charts the fallout from the scandal, which sends shockwaves through her personal and professional life.
Though the series is not straightforwardly autobiographical, there are parallels with Piper’s own showbiz journey, with Suzie starting out as a teen pop star before finding fame as the sidekick on a successful sci-fi show.
Piper and Prebble, who is also a writer and co-executive producer on HBO hit Succession, previously worked together on ITV2 series Secret Diary of a Call Girl.
Filming for the second series of I Hate Suzie will begin in 2022, Sky confirmed today, with further announcements to follow.
“We are so excited to continue the journey of Suzie Pickles,” a tweet from the broadcaster said.
The show also stars Leila Farzad as Suzie’s straight-talking manager and best friend Naomi and Daniel Ings as her husband Cob.
Series one of I Hate Suzie is available to stream on NOW TV.
