BBC Two’s medical documentary Hospital returns to screens for a second run. This series takes viewers inside St Mary’s in Paddington as members of staff treat victims of the Westminster incident, and the attacker himself, Khalid Massood. Here’s what to expect from the new episodes:

What’s it about?

A more in-depth alternative to Channel 4’s 24 Hours in A&E, Hospital looks at the challenges facing staff at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

This covers everything from new cancer drugs to the startling number of mental health patients that end up in A&E and major terrorist incidents.

Which hospitals are featured?

The programme features footage filmed at all five of the Trust’s hospitals Charing Cross, Hammersmith, Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea, St Mary’s and Western Eye.

What happens in episode one?

Episode one follows the aftermath of the Westminster terrorist attack as staff at St Mary’s hospital race to treat survivors and the attacker himself Khalid Massood.

We see the staff receive news of the event midway through a meeting and witness their response as Massood is wheeled into the hospital.

The attacker is quickly proclaimed dead but it’s not clear whether he passed away at the hospital or while in the ambulance on the way there.

Who is Khalid Masood?

On March 22, 2017 Khalid Masood drove a car into pedestrians walking along the pavement on Westminster Bridge and Bridge Street.

His actions injured more than 50 people, four of whom died. After crashing the car into the perimeter fence of the Westminster Palace grounds Masood abandoned his vehicle and ran into New Palace Yard where he stabbed and killed an unarmed police officer.

The attacker was then shot down by armed police before he was taken to St Mary’s hopistal where he was declared dead.

When’s it on?

Hospital series two begins tonight at 9pm on BBC Two.
