Holly Willoughby joked with fans that she had been fired from This Morning after showing an old headshot of their boss.

To mark Old Headshot Day, which fell over the weekend, Willoughby and Phillip Schofield opened the show with a display of throwback snaps of themselves, Alison Hammond, John Torode and Alice Beer.

However, the duo weren’t done there as they treated viewers to one last snap of This Morning editor Martin Frizell, decked out in his leather jacket and dark sunglasses.

As the picture flashed on screen, Willoughby joked: “We can’t possibly tell you what he’s just said in our ear.

“Well, it’s been really nice knowing you all. We’re probably being fired at the end of today’s show.”

Schofield chimed in: “Oh yes, indeed we have! Shall we finish it or just go now?”

Willoughby finished: “Oh we’ll do the rest, all right. We’ve got a lot to do!” before introducing the guests for the first couple of segments.

The presenter stunned her colleagues and ITV viewers with her headshot showing her as a young brunette, joking that it was nearer her natural colour.

Elsewhere during the show, Schofield melted hearts and he sat on the floor playing with adorable triplets during an interview with their mum about dressing them in outfits inspired by Willoughby.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10.30am on ITV.
