If you needed any further proof that David Hasselhoff is a truly legendary figure, just take a look at his new semi-improvised comedy series Hoff The Record on Dave.

The show sees the Hoff playing, well, The Hoff – but one who’s fallen on slightly more desperate times and is trying everything he can to reignite his flailing career. It’s yet further proof that he’s one of the best kinds of celebrity - a star who’s more than willing to poke fun at himself.

Take a look back at some of The Hoff’s most brilliantly self-aware moments.

1) True Survivor music video

Hasselhoff’s most recent single is a perfect Eighties throwback with a jaw-dropping video to boot, featuring clips from viral short film Kung Fury. The Hoff dons an astonishing mullet, poses suggestively by a sports car surrounded by dry ice, and – best of all – rides a T-Rex.

2) The Spongebob Squarepants Movie cameo

The Hoff has played off his iconic Baywatch role, but his most unexpected cameo came in The Spongebob Squarepants Movie. When Spongebob and Patrick find themselves stranded in the real world, who better to take them back to Bikini Bottom than David Hasselhoff? Bonus points for firing them into the sea from between his pecs.

3) Hooked on a Feeling cover

Before Guardians of the Galaxy made Hooked On A Feeling your new favourite song, the Hoff had a crack at it in back in 1997. The Windows Movie Maker-style video effects alone make this a must-see. Glorious.

4) Piranha 3DD cameo

Another Baywatch-inspired cameo came in a film that’s more or less the total opposite of Spongebob. A brief appearance in Piranha 3DD saw Hasselhoff realise he can’t do the whole running-with-a-life-raft thing so well anymore. He also calls a small child “a little ginger moron”.

5) Jump In My Car

Once you listen to Jump In My Car, it will never, ever leave your brain. A Status Quo-style rock’n’roll jam, the slightly creepy lyrics are offset by the fact that you would certainly jump into KITT from Knight Rider if you got the chance.

Never change, Hoff.
