Game of Thrones actor Stephen Dillane has revealed that he doesn’t watch the epic fantasy show because of how “brutal” and “hardcore” it is.
The 58 year-old, who played Stannis Baratheon in the show, told RadioTimes.com: “It’s pretty brutal, I couldn’t watch much of that anyway. It’s hardcore. Too tough for me…. It’s just too painful.
“It’s pretty intense, quite overwhelming, the whole world of it is pretty overwhelming.”
The actor claimed that the main thing he got out of the series was “money”, but also said: “I don’t dismiss it at all. I think it’s fantastic. I think it’s an extraordinary thing. An amazing phenomenon. A really amazing phenomenon.”
Game of Thrones: Season 6
Despite being a fan-favourite character for much of the series, Stannis’ plot in Season 5 was hugely controversial – convinced to (SPOILER ALERT) burn his own daughter alive, leading to the suicide of his wife and his own eventual death at the hands of Brienne of Tarth.
While the fate of Stannis seemed fairly set – with Brienne’s sword swinging towards his neck – the fact that his death was not explicitly shown on character has led some to believe that the character could return.
However, Dillane doesn’t seem to think he’ll be coming back. Asked if Stannis is actually dead, he said: “As far as I know, yeah.”
Game of Thrones is due to return with Season 6 on April 24 – just don’t expect Dillane to tune in.
