The final season of Game of Thrones will air in the “early half” of 2019, HBO has announced.
The network has long promised a 2019 air date for the eighth series for the conclusion of the fantasy hit but HBO programming president Casey Bloys has now said it will air in the “first half” of the year.
The concluding six episodes will see an end to the popular show, which first hit screens in 2011 to record success.
Bloys also confirmed that the prequel fans are waiting for isn’t actually going into production in October, as previously reported.
He said (via EW): “I don’t know where that report came from, we’re hoping to go into production in early ’19.”
The final season of the drama, which airs on Sky Atlantic in the UK, is being kept under wraps with fans desperate to know what’s going to happen.
However, Emilia Clarke – who stars as Daenerys Targaryen – has hinted at her final scenes in the long-running show.
She told Vanity Fair: “It f***** me up. Knowing that is going to be a lasting flavor in someone’s mouth of what Daenerys is . ..”

Game Of Thrones fans closely scrutinising Clarke’s words could interpret her quotes as pointing towards various different fates for Daenerys.
The magazine pointed out that we still don’t know if the character is set to gain the right to rule Westeros but it seems Clarke has finished shooting for good.
Clarke also confirmed she has been starring in scenes with Turner and Williams, who play Sansa and Arya Stark.
Game of Thrones season 8 is set to air in the first half of next year. Previous series have simulcasted the premiere on Sky Atlantic as on US screens.
