After two years off screen, hit comedy Friday Night Dinner is finally returning to Channel 4.

The laugh-a-minute series will check back in with The Goodmans as they sit down for their weekly family dinner as is traditional for Jewish people on Shabbat.

The series sees brothers Adam and Jonny go to their parents’ house for dinner, bringing with them their complicated relationship woes, work dramas and, above all, their brotherly love. And, of course, no dinner would be complete without neighbour Jim – played by Mark Heap – popping in to unwittingly wreck havoc.

Here are five things you need to know as Friday Night Dinner returns for a fifth series:

Comedy: The popular series is back for more episodes
Channel 4

1) It stars Simon Bird and Tom Rosenthal

The Inbetweeners star Bird – who played Will Mckenzie in the cult comedy – plays older son Adam, the bumbling and loveable musician, while comedian Rosenthal is Jonny, the younger sibling working as an estate agent who always seems to be plagued buy drama of the romantic kind.

2) Tamsin Grieg and Paul Ritter provide the parental supervision

Actress Grieg stars as glamorous Jackie Goodman, the strong matriarch figure, while her hapless husband Martin Goodman is played superbly by Ritter, who injects comedy into every single line. Over the years, Martin has become known for his classic lines including “a lovely bit of squirrel” and the fact he is always hot.

Recurring stars include Tracy-Ann Oberman as Auntie Val and Frances Cuka as Grandma Nelly.
