Matt Berry brings his signature offbeat sense of humour to new Channel 4 comedy Year of the Rabbit.
The eight part series is set in Victorian London and sees Berry star as a foul-mouthed detective charged with cleaning up the city’s criminal underworld.
As you would expect from Berry, who is best known for shows like Toast of London and Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, the series is far from your average period drama.

What is Year of the Rabbit about?
Berry plays Detective Inspector Rabbit who, according to Channel 4’s synopsis, is a “hardened booze-hound” who has been “chasing bad guys for as long as he can remember.”
He’s not as sharp as he used to be, however, and the first episode sees him recruit a younger partner, the hapless and naive Cambridge graduate Sergeant Strauss, who doesn’t seem cut out for rubbing shoulders with hardened criminals.
Meanwhile Mabel, the adopted daughter of the Chief of Police, has her heart set on becoming London’s first female police officer and completes their unusual trio of crime fighters.
The first instalment sees the colleagues tasked with solving the murder of a young woman. It seems like a routine case, until they notice a mysterious symbol on her make-up compact which draws them into a far more complex investigation.
Who else is in the cast?
Freddie Fox plays Strauss, with Chewing Gum star Susan Wokoma starring as Mabel.
Keeley Hawes makes a brief appearance as the enigmatic Lydia and is joined by Sally Phillips as Princess Juliana of Bulgaria. Alun Armstrong plays Rabbit’s colleague Chief Inspector Wisbech.

The series begins on Monday, June 10 at 10pm on Channel 4.
