Poldark’s Eleanor Tomlinson marked her final scene of the much-loved BBC period drama with an emotional Instagram post, thanking the show’s cast and crew for becoming like “a family.”

The 26-year-old actress, who has played Demelza on the show since 2015, shared two sweet behind-the-scenes snaps from the set of her and co-star Aidan Turner dressed in their characters’ traditional Cornish costumes.

In the first, she kisses her on-screen husband Turner on the cheek as he clutches a clapperboard, and in the second he returns the favour.

“Life is precious and should not be scorned. The thing is to find some purpose, to go on living,” she wrote.

“Goodbye Poldark. Thank you to the incredible cast and crew that have made this series over the last 5 years. What a family we are.”

Tomlinson and Turner also appeared in another photo shared on the show’s official Instagram page, posing alongside producers Karen Thrussell and Michael Ray, who brandished a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of champagne.

Last week, the actress was in a reflective mood as she unearthed a sweet video clip which was taken shortly after she landed the role of Demelza nearly five years ago.

“It seems only right that I should mark the end of @official_poldark with a video of the beginning. Here I am 2 minutes after that phone call… ‘Eleanor, you got the job!’” she captioned the nostalgic Instagram post.

The fifth season of the BBC drama, which is based on the Poldark novels by Winston Graham, will be the show’s last, and is set to air later this year.

However, producer Thrussell recently suggested that the door would be left open for the show to return in “a few years,” as there are still five more books left to adapt.

“There are five more books we could do in future possibly,” Thrussell told the Radio Times. “If we did a Poldark six – and a lot of us would like to do it – it wouldn’t be for a few years yet.

“Ross would be in his 40s… I think we would probably focus on Ross and Demelza because we love them so much. The books are really great. I think for me, it would be a real honour to finish them because the 1970s [TV] series didn’t finish them, they stopped where we are stopping now.”
