BBC News presenter Simon McCoy had another hilarious royal moment as a reporter tried valiantly to spot Meghan Markle during a live broadcast in Cardiff.

Royal correspondent Sarah Campbell was reporting on Prince Harry and Ms Markle's visit to Wales on Thursday afternoon but, as the couple greeted adoring crowds, she struggled to see where they were from the media pen.

Reporting back to anchor McCoy she said: "Hopefully you should be able to see Meghan round about now. Can you see her?"

McCoy replied "no" to which Campbell clarified "she's in a dark coat".

McCoy then fired back: "I know what she looks like Sarah, we can't see her."

And Campbell responded: "There’s nothing I can do Simon. I can draw you a picture and put it in front of the lens if that helps at all."

She went on to explain that she was stuck in a media pen with "lots of different camera crews from lots of different places", before McCoy spotted Prince Harry.

The veteran newsreader has often amused viewers with his take on royal stories, and fans were quick to take to Twitter to praise him for his latest effort.

BBC Scotland business and economy editor Douglas Fraser tweeted: "Arise Sir @BBCSimonMcCoy. Royal coverage legend."

Journalist Zahra Hankir added: "Stellar/hilarious reporting here from @BBCSimonMcCoy & @SarahCam3."

Another speculated that McCoy should provide alternative red button commentary for the royal wedding, to which someone replied: "Let’s have @BBCSimonMcCoy as the commentator for the royal wedding, not just the red button one. He is funny and quick witted.”

Another person said: "Not all Brits are obsessed by the Royals. And they are led by @BBCSimonMcCoy."

In November, McCoy failed to summon enthusiasm as he delivered the news of Ms Markle and Prince Harry's engagement.

The presenter was also previously praised for a fantastically lacklustre report on the due date of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s third child.
