EastEnders producer Sean O’Connor has hinted that some former characters could be making a comeback later this year.

Discussing what’s in store for the popular BBC soap, he explained that there will be some new arrivals in the square as well as “old faces”.

“There’s the return of the much-loved Robbie Jackson, his sister Sonia and a couple of other new - and old - faces arriving over a fantastic summer which takes us into a very dramatic autumn”, he told Metro.

We know that the EastEnders bosses are introducing a new family, The Taylors, to Albert Square this summer however, there’s no word yet on who the returning cast members will be.

Sean O’Connor returned as the show’s producer in June 2016 after the departure of former boss Dominic Treadwell-Collins and since then viewers have noticed a change in storylines with some branding the show boring.

But O’Connor is determined to keep things interesting and spoke of his “ambitious” and “electric” plans for the soap’s future later in the interview.

“The ambition is for EastEnders to be the best British soap opera. Sometimes, in order to make that happen, you have to work hard on the foundations of what the show is and that’s what we’ve been concentrating on since I arrived in Walford”, he explained.

Adding: “But what we are planning will be electric – but I’m not going to say how! It will involve all of the main characters – both new and legacy characters, nobody has been left out. We’re all very excited about it.”

One former EastEnders favourite who is returning to Walford after a lengthy break is Dean Gaffney’s character Robbie Jackson, who hasn’t appeared in the soap for 14 years. Sadly his trusty sidekick, pet dog Wellard won’t be coming back with him.
