What will the third season be about?

Season two finished on a wild cliffhanger: Jonas was pulled into another world by a version of his girlfriend Martha, who he had just killed in his reality.

This confirmed the existence of alternate realities in the world of Dark, further expanding its mind-bending, time-travel plot.

After the release of season two in 2019, creator Jantje Friese told IndieWire that the plot of season three had already been hinted at throughout the series.

“The basic idea of Season 3 was something that we already had when we started,” she said.

“There are also a lot of things in Season 1 hinting to Season 3. Also, we actually thought about putting some of the stuff that’s now in Season 3 into Season 2, but then decided to move it backwards. So basically now everything that’s left just falls into Season 3.”

She revealed: “We’re going to see a bit more about grown Ulrich… Also the same as we did in Season 2 where we put a little bit focus on different characters like Claudia and Egon, we’re going to do the same in Season 3 and call some people up that had smaller parts. And yes, Martha and Jonas, that’s the big centerpiece of it all.”

But don’t expect everything to be cleared up. “We’re not going to solve every riddle because sometimes it’s funnier [that way],” Friese told IndieWire.

“I’m still not sure about the percentage, but it’s probably 10 percent [of the mysteries] we are not going to answer just for the fun of it, but they will be smaller.”

The Netflix synopsis ominously reads: "In the third and final season, DARK reaches its mind-bending conclusion, moving beyond the concept of space and time. Upon arrival in a new world, Jonas tries to make sense of what this rendition of Winden means for his own fate, while the ones left behind in the other world are left on a quest to break the loop that now not only bends time but also space. Two worlds. Light and dark. And in the center a tragic love story of epic proportions.

Is there a trailer?

There is! After the date of release was teased in May, a full trailer has since been released.

And we look set for a particularly foreboding series, where it seems time and space are seemingly melting into each other, repeating in an uncanny cycle.
