Countdown: Rachel Riley and Susie Dent lose it as they spell out ‘bumhole’

The audience couldn’t contain their laughter at the high-scoring word

It’s happened again: yet another sort-of-rude word has appeared on Countdown.

Rather than popping up randomly in the opening letter selection, this time the hilarious anagram came from the boffins at Dictionary Corner.

Presented with the letters X, H, B, L, O, U, E, M, and G, the best the contestants could come up with were ‘bulge’ and ‘bough’.

“What have we got in the corner, anything interesting there?” asked host Nick Hewer.

Giggling to themselves, resident expert Susie Dent and guest Janet Street Porter lost their composure.

“I can’t say it,” Janet laughed, prompting Dent to step in.

“OK, I’ll get this over with quickly,” said Dent, revealing the seven letter word: “Bumhole.”

With the audience roaring in laughter, Rachel Riley was forced to spell the word out on the board, standing and smiling next to it.

“So it’s going to be one of those days is it?” joked Nick Hewer.

It’s only a matter of weeks since the last Countdown mishap – back in March, one contestant’s choice of letters brought up the word ‘clit’, while in August last year the word ‘SLUTZ’ was spelled out.
