Britain’s Got Talent bosses have revealed the voting figures for Saturday night’s final, showing how comedian Jon Courtenay took the show’s top prize.

This year’s final of the beloved variety show saw the piano playing funnyman, 46, in the top three most popular acts of the night, facing off against fellow comedian Steve Royal and choir Sign Along With Us.

But while it was a hotly contested final, Ant and Dec’s golden buzzer act romped to victory after scoring 35.7% of the public vote.

Sign Along With Us came in second with 15.33%, while third place act Royal took 14.1% of the final tally.

It was an emotional final for Courtenay, who fell to his knees upon hearing the news he’d won BGT’s grand prize - £250,000 cash and a slot performing at the Royal Variety.

“I tried not to think about it because I am really bad at hiding disappointment,” he said. "This morning for the first time, this sounds really dramatic and I literally, woke up with an idea for a song for the Royal Variety Performance.

“I wrote it down and I tried not to think about it as being a sign because as I say it would be too much pressure.”

Comedian Nabil Abdulrashid, who divided opinions with his near-the-knuckle routine about his experiences as a black man in the UK, came fourth overall and landed 13.9% of the final vote.

Saturday night marked the end of Britain’s Got Talent this year, with the most recent series having been marred by controversy and Ofcom complaints.

Over 20,000 viewers took to the broadcasting watchdog over former BGT winners Diversity performing a powerful routine which paid homage to the ongoing Black Lives Matter movement.

Alesha Dixon’s BLM necklace, as well as Amanda Holden’s choice of dresses, also saw people issue complaints to Ofcom.

Head judge Simon Cowell was also forced to missed this year’s final, after breaking his back on an electric scooter while out in Malibu.
