Anne Robinson might not have expected that her documentary about the spending habits of various families of the UK would see her eating food that came from a bin.

In the first episode, Robinson visits houses that have hosted senior politicians, households struggling on low income, and those who have rejected material possessions altogether.

That would be Jedi and his partner Hannah, a pair of ‘eco-warriors’ who have set up camp in the forest, creating a home out of scrap goods.

When asked by Robinson how much he spent on his abode, Jedi says he only bought the nails for “twenty quid”. The couple may have a springy memory foam mattress, but they collectively have less than £50 in the bank.

However, when it comes to sourcing food they use their initiative, looking through skips and bins at the back of supermarkets to find goods that are still edible despite being out of date.

Jedi and Hannah cook a stew for Anne which has been “skipped”, and the presenter joins the duo on a trip to the back of Waitrose where they manage to find salmon, feta cheese, and bagels – approximately £50 worth of food overall - while avoiding the advances of security staff.

Watch how Anne fares in the rest of her explorations as the two-part programme airs over the next two weeks.
