Calum Scott might be one of the favourites to win Britain’s Got Talent, but his performance saw an unfortunate mis-step in the live final.

During his rendition of Rihanna’s hit Diamonds, Scott forgot the words during the opening verse, clutching his head and wincing as he sang. However, he quickly picked up and finished the rest of the song to rapturous applause from the audience.

While he was evidently frustrated with himself at the end of the song, the judges were positive about his overall performance, and offered comforting words about his mind-blank.

“You lost your words, you lost your timing,” Simon Cowell admitted. “Luckily in the second half of the song you picked it up.”

He added: “I think you really deserve to be here tonight.”

Judge Alesha Dixon offered sympathy as a fellow singer, claiming that she could see Scott as a successful recording artist.

“It happens,” she said about the forgotten lyrics. “You have the most magical voice.”

Amanda Holden was similarly supportive, saying: “Nerves just show that you care.”

Speaking to Ant and Dec following the judges’ comments, Calum was apologetic and revealed that his forgetfulness came from nerves rather than not knowing the lyrics.

“I’m very familiar with the words,” he claimed. “I made a mistake, I’m sorry”
