Beloved ITV game show Blankety Blank could be set for a comeback in the near future.

The word-guessing game is poised to return after 14 years off the air, according to the Sunday People.

“Blankety Blank was such a huge hit in the 80s and ITV bosses want to replicate that success,” a source said.

“There’s a strong history of game shows being revived.

"They are known to carry on straight where they left off ... UK audiences love a good game show.”

The show most recently ran from 1997 to 1999 on BBC One and 2001 to 2002 on ITV with Paul O’Grady hosting as drag alter-ego Lily Savage.

According to the Mirror, insiders aren’t ruling out that O’Grady could be brought back as host for the new run.

Previously the show was a vehicle for Terry Wogan from 1979 to 1983, and was later hosted by Les Dawson.

The rules of the game see contestants from the public attempt to guess the missing word in a sentence.
